Lost Your Voice Before a Concert?
Emergency Vocal Coach – Immediate Help Before the Show
When every minute counts, you need experience, not experimentation.
Acute vocal problems right before a show are among the most challenging situations in the daily life of a touring artist. Decisions must be made under time pressure that take into account both the performance and long-term vocal health.
I support professional artists and productions facing acute vocal challenges—on-site or remotely—with a combination of functional voice analysis, targeted adjustments to singing technique, manual therapy, and individually tailored recovery strategies. The goal is to stabilize the voice’s performance capacity as best as possible under the given circumstances and to responsibly assess what is realistically achievable on that particular day.
Not every voice needs the same approach in an acute situation. That’s why every session begins with a quick functional assessment, based on which the next steps are determined on an individual basis.
Acute Response
I usually respond to emergency requests within 30 minutes (depending on my availability and current assignments).
Here’s How Acute Care Works
1) Initial Functional Assessment
We begin by analyzing the current vocal situation: symptoms, vocal strain over the past few days, performance requirements, how the artist is feeling that day, and the time remaining until the performance. This allows us to form a clear picture of the initial situation within just a few minutes.
2) Prioritization & Strategy
Based on this assessment, we work together to determine which measures will best support the performance, which strains should be avoided, and how to make optimal use of available resources.
3) Targeted Intervention
Depending on the situation, we employ immediately effective manual techniques, measures to relieve and stabilize the voice, adjustments to vocal technique, and individually tailored warm-ups.
4) Showday-Plan
For the time remaining until the performance, we develop a clear schedule with timing, workload management, and specific recommendations so that the artist can focus entirely on the performance.
5) Coordination with the Production Team
When appropriate, we hold a brief meeting with management, the musical director, or the production team to jointly evaluate possible adjustments to the schedule, repertoire, or workload management.
